Payolle, freely explore the mountain !

Welcome to Payolle ! There is no question about it : the “Far North” spirit reigns around the lake. Snowfields to hurtle down on a toboggan with the family, inns that warm your body and soul, plateaus, peaks and forests to explore on snowshoes or cross-country skis and more besides. The freedom of wide open spaces is yours to enjoy !

Discover Payolle in Winter!

Spectacular landscapes and unspoilt nature !

Set off for a stroll around the Lac de Payolle and admire the snow-capped peaks and vast sky reflected in the lake. At the foot of the Col d’Aspin, explore this captivating mountain site, breathe in, breathe out, play hide-and-seek with the Pic du Midi de Bigorre and the Arbizon and sample the wild natural riches of this unspoilt area. The silence and immaculate beauty of these landscapes inspire relaxation and serenity. The hundred-year-old pine trees demand respect. The wild fauna is very much in evidence, and during winter you can follow the animal tracks! Some people have nicknamed Payolle “Little Canada”, but don’t be fooled: Payolle looks a lot like a Canadian landscape, but there is absolutely nothing “little” about it !

The joys of snow, the joy of sharing

The site of Payolle in Campan will be your favourite place

The site of Payolle in Campan will be your favourite place to meet friends or family and to slide countless times down the toboggan run. These vast snowfields will be the stage of your most exhilarating descents and most joyful “wahoos!!!”. But beware, a snowball fight is on the cards: to your stations!

Time to break for a bite to eat

And when peace is restored after the battle, it will be time to eat: traditional garbure soup or wood-fired food if it’s lunchtime, or a crepe and a hot chocolate if it’s snack time. If you’re daring you can then go back to sliding down the mountain on a toboggan, or how about an outing in a dog sled ?

Snowshoeing or cross-country skiing, the perfect match for the natural elements

Not much of a “downhill skier”? If cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are more your thing, you’ll have a field day in Payolle. The setting is exceptional, and it is free to access and open to all but take care: the routes aren’t marked! Make sure you’re up for it and properly equipped if you’re going without a guide or opt for a guided outing with a professional. That said, weather permitting, a 15-km circuit is maintained around the Lac du Payolle and through the forest.

Payolle differently with the “les 7 secrets de Payolle” app

Another way to explore Payolle while having fun is searching for the 7 secrets of Payolle. Download the app or just the booklet and choose a themed circuit or an orienteering course. All you have to do then is show intuition, motivation and insight to reach the end of the available circuits! But regardless of your level and no matter how you travel (hiking, snowshoeing, running or mountain biking), you’ll find a circuit that is right for you. Download the circuit book

Do you fancy the Far North experience ? Are you tempted to wander freely between the impressive pine trees on snowshoes or cross-country skis?
