Passes & Peaks in the Pyrenees
From passes and peaks, especially in Tourmalet-Pic du Midi, you have a bird’s-eye view of the situation ! Follow the ridgeline, look as far as your eyes can see. Your perception is not the same here; everything takes on a new dimension… Suppose you see things differently ?
The passes, open doors in the mountain barrier
Coming through a pass, the lowest point on the ridgeline between two slopes, makes you feel like you are passing from one world into another, stopping for a break untouched by time. In a single moment up there, you feel satisfaction, nostalgia, impatient expectation, dazzlement and surprise all at once.
On foot, by bike, on two wheels or by car
Head from one valley to the next using a mountain pass.
It is your turn to explore these “rites of passage” between slopes that shaped history. Theatres of trade and human migration in the past, the passes are now the best spots to see migrating birds.
In the footsteps of the greatest legends
Of course, the spirit of the greatest cyclists of the Tour de France will be by your side in the Col du Tourmalet and the Col d’Aspin.
But the Hourquette d’Ancizan, which can be accessed by road, is equally impressive.
If you are on a road trip,
Then follow the Route des Cols, setting off from Barèges and heading all the way to Arreau or vice versa, and explore the Col du Tourmalet and the Col d’Aspin in a single day !
The Pyrenees at the top !
If you are able to appreciate the feeling of serenity provided by the passes, then you are bound to be blown away by our destination’s peaks. If you want to discover yourself, surprise yourself by climbing a peak. But you don’t have to be a mountain dweller to love the Hautes-Pyrenees peaks: admire them from afar, learn their shapes so you can tell them apart, be amazed by their beauty at each turn – wow ! Look how beautiful they are !
The Pic du Midi de Bigorre
The Pic du Midi de Bigorre : a peak with a vast laid-out terrace at an altitude of around 2,800 metres. It provides one of the most beautiful views of the Pyrenees mountain range and is accessible to all ! Thanks to the guide-activity leaders, you will know everything there is to know about a whole host of Pyrenees peaks.
Le pic du Montaigu
The Pic du Montaigu, the Pic du Midi’s neighbour, also offers an extraordinary panoramic view if you aren’t afraid of the over 1,000 m climb. Up there, you enjoy a sea of clouds or breath-taking landscapes in an unspoilt natural setting: the reward lives up to the challenge !
Pyrenean CYCLIN’TRIP
Ride in the tracks of cyclists, and on Pyrenean cols of the Tour de France ! Each day from 9 to 12 noon, one, two, three cols will prohibit car circulation. At your own pace enjoy an extraordinary week, where a choice of 10 cols and more than 100km of ascent are dedicated to cyclists.
