The Massif of Néouvielle bordering Tourmalet-Pic du Midi fulfils these desires. A listed nature reserve since 1935, this area’s keywords are “protect, raise awareness and manage”.

Peaks over 3,000 metres

Including the famous Pic Long at 3,192 m, the Pic du Néouvielle and the Pic du Ramougn, and plenty of other shorter peaks that are just as interesting to climb,

Hiking trails

Dozens of kilometres of marked paths leading from one lake to another, from ridges to passes, from refuges to mountain passes and more besides…

Encounters with fertile nature (and maybe with yourself too)

A few mysterious individuals live in the aquatic area: the Pyrenean desman and the common midwife toad, which are only found in the Pyrenees.

The Néouvielle a nature reserve

Around a hundred natural lakes or reservoirs. Thriving nature with mountain pines which are found at an altitude of up to 2,600 m, almost the maximum height they can survive at, rhododendron moors which delight photographers, and extensive grasslands, idyllic refuges for many passerine birds…

The Néouvielle you feel protected in these mountains

Hikers and fishermen can follow the trails from Artigues to explore the many lakes: Caderolles, Grézioles and Campana du Cloutou. A night at the Refuge de Campana or under the stars will leave you with memories of a landmark day. You can then head via the Col de Bastanet to dive into the reserve’s large lakes: l’Oule, Cap de Long, Aumar and Aubert, to name but a few… Or alternatively you can head in the other direction along the GR 10 from Tournaboup, on the other side of the Col du Tourmalet, for a magical hike, surrounded by marmots, via the Vallon d’Aygue Cluze, the Col de Madamète or the Hourquette d’Aubert, with stunning views of the lakes and peaks of this multifaceted reserve!
